Porcelain Clay No. 65

The unfired color of No. 65 is pure white and very very white when it is bisque fired. Thin pieces are translucent when fired to Cone 5 (2205°F, 1207°C). It has been greatly improved in plasticity, making it an excellent body for wheel throwing. It is also an exceptional clay for sculpture and all other methods of hand building. Porcelain Clay No. 65 is available in de-aired moist form only.

The firing temperature of Cone 5 (2205°F, 1207°C) should be attained either in bisque or glaze fire. At Cone 5 shrinkage is 12% and absorption is 0.2%. Maximum firing temperature is Cone 6 (2269°F, 1243°C).

Low Fire Bisque -- High Fire Glaze: Firing AMACOŽ Porcelain Clay at low temperatures of Cone 05 (1911°F, 1044°C) results in a porous bisque on which AMACOŽ High Fire Glazes are easy to apply. Then, glazed pieces are fired to Cone 5 (2205°F, 1207°C). This is the method generally used for producing ware without crazing.

High Fire Bisque -- Low Fire Glaze: The bone dry greenware may be bisque fired to Cone 5 (2205°F, 1207°C), then glazed with any AMACOŽ glaze having a firing temperature of Cone 05 (1911°F,1044°C). Although glazes are rather difficult to apply on the hard, dense bisque, sometimes this method is used when glazes of certain colors and textures are desired.

Single Fire -- AMACOŽ High Fire Glazes can be applied to bone dry greenware and single fired to Cone 5 (2205°F, 1207°C). Finished pottery can be obtained in one firing at a savings in firing costs.

Any high fire AMACOŽ glazes and underglazes are recommended for use with No. 65 clay. See firing instructions for specific instructions.
