Stoneware Clay w/ grog No. 48

Dry only

AMACOŽ Stoneware Body No. 48 is composed of several clays selected for their plastic qualities, coarse fireclay, and grog for texture. It is excellent for throwing, hand building, and sculpture, but is not suitable for casting. No. 48 is available in de-aired moist and airfloated dry formulas.

When fired at the recommended temperature of Cone 5 to 6 (2205°-2269°F, 1207°-1243°C) in oxidation, bisque is a warm buff color peppered throughout with dark spots, similar to a reduced stoneware body. When reduction fired, this body is a very dark brown. At Cone 5 total shrinkage is 11.3% and absorption 6.0%. At Cone 10 total shrinkage is 11.7% and absorption 2.9%.

All AMACOŽ High Fire Glazes are recommended for use with No. 48 Stoneware. Light Matte and transparent glazes allow the dark specks in the clay to show for a peppered effect. Unique effects can be achieved with partial glazing, underglazing and engobes.
