Email us to Buy Clay! Stoneware Clay w/o grog No. 480 High Fire
Features   Melodee's Comments
Stoneware Clay w/o grog No. 480

AMACOŽ Stoneware Body No. 480 is suitable for both modeling and casting. The absence of grog gives the clay a smoother surface and is more plastic. It is excellent for throwing, hand building and casting, but is not as suitable as regular No. 48 for sculpture. No. 480 is available in de-aired moist form only.

AMACOŽ Stoneware Body No. 480 is a warm buff color peppered with dark spots when fired at the recommended temperature of Cone 5-6 (2205°-2269°F, 1207°-1243°C). At lower temperatures the body is somewhat lighter and less vitreous. At Cone 5 total shrinkage is 10.6% and absorption 5.2%. At Cone 10 total shrinkage is 10.8% and absorption 1.9%.

Any of AMACO's high fire glazes can be used with No. 480 clay. Dark specks in the clay give a peppered effect to light matte and transparent glazes. Slip trailing and partial glazing can achieve some interesting results as well.
